Christie Kerr Wins International Crown over Melissa Reid
The UL International Crown is always a tough and close fight between strong golf teams. This most recent competition was no different, as Christie Kerr edged out Melissa Reid in some tough golf in a relatively close race to the finish. This victory solidified Team USA’s position as first place in a very close leaderboard of stacked teams. The final points and rankings were:
- 1st: United States with 6 wins, 3 losses, and 1 tie.
- 2nd: South Korea with 6 wins, 4 losses, and 0 ties.
- 3rd: England with 5 wins, 4 losses, and 1 tie.
As evident even by these top 3 ratings, it was close to the very end of the tournament, but through Christie Kerr’s fantastic play, the United States edged out in 1st place by the slimmest of margins - a single point. The United States knew the goal was to stay strong and not try to change their game plan. The team showed great focus in sticking to their guns and game plan, focusing most on executing great shots.
While these results look like tough and even competition from the beginning, the actual tournament itself tells another story. Going into the singles competition portion of the event, England led the leaderboards handily. In this portion of the competition, however, England’s team ended up finishing with 1 win and 3 losses on the day, to a still very close third place. Kerr is a major veteran to step up in this spot for team USA, and there was no better player to close out the important tight victory.
